JAMMU, Sept 24: On the occasion of first anniversary of `Swachh Bharat Abhiyan’, the Jammu Municipal Corporation (JMC) is going to launch a `Clean Jammu Abhiyan’ from October 2.
“Plan of action is to take up 10 wards every day and clean it thoroughly. This will be followed by a massive awareness campaign involving oath taking, door to door campaign, nukkad natak, lectures, plantation drive etc,” informed JMC Commissioner   Mandeep Kour.
She further said that various schools, NSS and NCC volunteers, market associations like Apsara Market Association, Raghunath Bazaar Businessmen Association and Chamber of Commerce are actively taking part in the campaign. “Various Government departments like JKPCC, Urban Development Department, JDA etc are also working hand in hand with us while Forest Department is playing an important role in helping us in launching plantation drive,” she added.
The Commissioner also informed that the JMC was constituting Mohalla Welfare Committees, which would look after the sanitation and civil works of that particular locality. “We have created a link on our website giving details of the campaign and for registration of volunteers. All Jammuites are requested to register themselves with us and become partner in the city building,” she appealed.
“We all know that no city and country can be made clean by a handful of sanitation workers and that too in country like ours with 1.25 billion population. It’s not humanly possible till each and every citizen realizes the importance of it and gears up to join hands with us in keeping our surroundings clean,” the JMC Commissioner stressed.
