JMC, Traffic Police intensify drive against illegal hoardings, encroachments

JAMMU, Mar 22: Continuing its endeavour to ensure clean & safe Jammu city through a series of drives launched by Jammu Municipal Corporation, (JMC), under the active guidance of its Commissioner Ramesh Kumar,  special teams of the civic body under the joint supervision of Secretary, JMC  Sunaina Mehta, Assistant Commissioner (Rev.), Vinakshi Koul, DySP.  Sunny Gupta and DySP Headquarters Mansha Beig  Revenue officers,  Parmod Sabharwal,  Ashwani Sudan,  Parveen Gupta and  Sunil Gupta, SHO’s of concerned police stations, enforcement inspectors and other field staff of JMC conducted a comprehensive drive today. Drive was mainly focused on encroachments of footpaths, illegal hoardings, illegal rehries/pharies. Such  drives have been conducted in various areas of Jammu city i.e. Bohri  Poonch House, Talab Tillo upto Canal Head, Amphalla, New Plot, High Court Road, Janipur etc. throughout this period.
During these drives the team removed seven truck loads of material including illegal banners, flexes, hoardings and goods displayed by the shopkeepers in front of their shops and lifted nine nos. of illegal rehries plying without licences.
The encroachers and shopkeepers of the areas were warned to desist from advertising and installing hoardings of various private companies without seeking prior permission from Jammu Municipal Corporation. Apart from that, strict warnings were issued to shopkeepers to keep their saleable items within their shutter line and not to encroach the footpaths which lead to congestion and obstruct free movement of pedestrians on footpath.
The street vendors were also directed to ply their rehries only in the rehri zones established by JMC.
Jammu Municipal Corporation again appealed to the shopkeepers to follow instructions already  published in leading newspapers vide which restrictions have been imposed on installation of hoardings on residential buildings/bridges/places of worships/hospitals/educational institutions/ crematorium/ graveyard / Govt. Offices / parks / gardens without requisite permission from JMC.
JMC regularly keeps on acquainting the shopkeepers, street vendors and encroachers through public announcements using loud speakers to follow the guidelines and rules to avoid penal action against them.
