JAMMU, Jan 19: A meeting of sanitation wing of Jammu Municipal Corporation (JMC) was held today to discuss reforms in the sanitation system of the city.
All sanitation supervisors, inspectors, nigrans and 30 drivers were present along with their officers and unions.
It was decided in the meeting that transfers of sanitation inspectors/supervisors were effected. As the post of nigran is not authorized, the meeting decided that all 800 people working on the post of nigrans in JMC will submit their CVs so that avenues for their regularization may be explored.
“In order to ensure smooth, timely and every day collection of garbage, vehicles have been placed at the level of sanitation inspectors. Every sanitation supervisor has to inform the inspector the moment garbage is collected and he will depute vehicle immediately. Log books of the driver shall be signed by the inspector. In no case, log books shall be approved by CTO without authentication of signature by the concerned inspector and his supervisory officer”, the meeting decided.
Observing that all garbage is being dumped by the sanitation staff in the drains, it was strictly told to all that for any such lapse, they will be held personally responsible and a fine of Rs 500 shall be imposed on them for every lapse in their area.
Pointing out that many instances of garbage burning have been noticed, the meeting decided as per Pollution laws a fine of Rs 5000 will be recovered from sanitary inspector on the spot rather than issuing challan and if it’s not recovered, amount shall be collected from the salary of sanitary inspector.
Informing that the door to door garbage collection will be started very soon in the markets, the meeting said that dustbins shall be placed outside every shop by the shopkeepers at their own expense in two colors for biodegradable and non-biodegradable waste.
“Garbage from the biodegradable bins shall be collected every day while non-biodegradable shall be collected every week. In case of any violation, immediate fine of Rs 5000 shall be imposed by the inspector and challan will be issued only when fine is not recovered”, the meeting decided.
Informing that Steel wheel barrows have been issued, the meeting said that they need to be collected within 3 days positively by everyone, so that the collection of garbage may be streamlined.
