JAMMU, Dec 28: Jagti Migrants Welfare Movement (JMWM) through Sunil Pandita, its convenor, has appealed the Government of India as well as to the J&K U.T. administration to work out a concrete resettlement, rehabilitation policy, for the exiled Kashmiri Pandits who have suffered a lot in last over 34 years of their displacement.
The Movement has resolved that if the policy of resettlement in the Valley is not worked out till March 2024 they will appeal to all displaced people to move to Lal Chowk, Srinagar along with their families for a mass protest against the Government’s failure in rehabilitating them in Valley.
The movement has resolved the settlement of their immediate demands. It demanded that the Government must review the recommendations made by the Parliamentary Committee on Home Affairs (137th report) on rehabilitation of migrants presented to Rajya Sabha on 13-02-2009 wherein among other provisions for rehabilitation of migrants, recommendation regarding declaration of Minority Status for Kashmiri Pandiths, inclusion of members in NHRC, Minority Commission of India etc were made.
It also demanded that facilities as provided vide Government order No.Rev/MR/141of 2009 dt.26.10.2009 be implemented at an earliest. Besides, after building of confidence measures among displaced Kashmiri Pandits, people who displaced after 1990 for them a concrete permanent rehabilitation policy requires to be worked out, as the long 33years exile in their own State is least tolerable.
The meeting demanded that a Review Committee comprising of top authorities and exiled people be appointed for on spot assessment of apathetic position of displaced people. It demanded that two Police Battalions among Kashmiri Hindus be established, besides, job opportunities be created for the youth of community.
It further demanded that the rehabilitation policy be framed after being consulted with the Pandits living in Jammu and not those settled abroad or in metropolitan cities of the country.
