NEW DELHI, Feb 14: The Jawharlal Nehru University row today took a fresh twist with Home Minister Rajnath Singh saying that anti-India protests had the full backing of Lashker-e-Taiba chief Hafiz Saeed and Government will take strict action against anyone found guilty in the matter.
It’s unfortunate that the JNU incident has been backed by Lashkar Chief Hafiz Saeed. Nation must also accept the reality that the JNU incident has been supported by Hafiz Saeed.
This is unfortunate, Mr Singh told reporters in the national capital. The comment came as the matter and the subsequent arrest of the university’s student union leader became a full-blown political controversy.
Following the arrest of students union leader Kanhaiya Kumar and the sedition charges against him, the matter has been politicised, with the Congress, the Left Front and Delhi’s ruling Aam Aadmi Party attacking the Central government for “encroaching on the autonomy of universities”.
Mr Singh said his government would not spare anyone who dares to raise anti-national slogans. Have given clear instructions that strict action must be taken against anyone who’s found guilty, but innocent people must not be harassed, Mr Singh said, adding that anyone who raises anti-India slogans or tries to put a question mark on national unity, will not be spared by this Government.
The Delhi Government has already ordered a majesterial inquiry into the case. (UNI)
