JAMMU, Jan 2: Jammu Obsetrics and Gynaecological Society (JOGS) in association with Post Graduate Department of Obst & Gynae, Government Medical College (GMC) Jammu organized a ‘Walkathon’ under the aegis of FOGSI, Federation of Gynaecological Societies of India.
It was a walk for the cause “Save the Girl Child” (Beti Bachao, Beti Padao). More than 130 societies of FOGSI all over the country participated in the walk, which was organized from SMGS Hospital to Indiara Chowk and back to the Hospital.
Here in Jammu, more than 200 participants including all JOGS members, Post Graduate students, Residents, Faculty from SMGS Hospital, ASCOMS, Gandhi Nagar Hospital, Sarwal Hospital, officers/officials of administration, Nurses and Paramedics of SMGS Hospital participated in the ‘Walkathon’.
As Female Foeticide is still on rise in India and child sex ratio is more in Urban India than in Rural India proving that female foeticide is more in urban areas. Deliberations about this cause were made by Dr Sunanda Raina (Principal and Dean, GMC Jammu), Dr Indu Kaul (Professor & Head of Department), Dr Sudha Sharma (president JOGS), Dr Ajay Wakhloo (Secretary JOGS), Dr Sapna Manhas (CMO), Mrs Pawan (Sister Supervisor) and Miss Madhvi (Junior Staff Nurse).
Placards were displayed and poems were recited by Post Graduate Students of the department. At the end, a pledge was taken by all to save the girl child.
