Join hands to eradicate drug abuse: DGP

DGP Ashok Prasad commissioning Drug De-addiction and Mental Health Counselling Centre at Jammu on Saturday.

: Drug abuse affects the capabilities and energies of the youth and it is the responsibility of all stakeholders to work together and eradicate the growing menace, which has risen to an alarming position in the modern society.
This was stated by the Director General of Police (DGP), Ashok Prasad while commissioning the Drug De-addiction and Mental Health Counselling Centre at Gulshan Ground here this afternoon. He said, “we would have to address the major reasons which lead the youth to take drugs, besides de-addicting the drug users”. Drug abuse makes the youth dependant, incapable to face the challenges and finally costs their life, Prasad added.
The DGP disclosed that Jammu and Kashmir Police, realising its social responsibility have taken initiatives for the physical and mental development of the youth of the State. Besides its professional duties JKP have been working for drug de-addiction and such centre has already been operational at Police Control Room Srinagar.
“Hundreds of youth have been treated in the centre by the doctors enabling to give up the dreadful consumption and join their normal life. Now we have commissioned the centre at Jammu, equipped with proper infrastructure to treat the drug abuse patients. All technical support will be provided by Police Hospital Jammu and medical, para-medical staff including the psychiatrics would be available for treatment and counselling of the patients”, he added.
Prasad stressed for joint efforts by all stakeholders to overcome the menace and save the youngsters from drug consumption, which also leads to other evils and crimes.
The DGP, highlighting the schemes undertaken under civic action programme, said that all such schemes are aimed to benefit the down trodden sections of the society and the youth of the State. He said that drug de-addiction is one of the major schemes under civic action programme for the development of state youth and our efforts have been bringing good results.

Phunchok and Shakeel Ahmed Beig, SSPs, Nissar Ahmed, Mir Mohammad Choudhary, R.K. Chalotra, T. D. Saini, S.P. Rajeshwar Singh, Executive Engineer, PCD, N.D.Khawaja, Dr, J.P. Thapa and other police officers.
