JAMMU, May 23: On the instructions of Commissioner Jammu Municipal Corporation M Raju, a joint anti-encroachment drive was conducted by JMC, Traffic and Executive Police under the supervision of Joint Commissioner (A), R S Jamwal (KAS), SSP Traffic Nisha Natayal, SP Traffic Rohit and Assistant Commissioner (Rev), Vinakshi Koul (KAS).
During the drive SDPOs West and Domana, Chief Enforcement Officer, Rajesh Gupta, Enforcement Officer, Kamni Kesar, Chief Transport Officer, Talat Mehmood Khan Revenue Officers, Parmod Kumar, Ashwani Sudan, Parveen Gupta and Sunil Gupta of JMC, SHOs of the concerned police stations and field staff of JMC also accompanied the drive.
The drive was conducted to follow the High Court directions regarding encroachment of footpaths by shopkeepers causing obstructions to pedestrians and street vendors causing free flow of traffic and congestion of roads. Anti-encroachment drive was conducted in the areas viz. Canal road to Paloura, Talab Tillo, Bohri, Raj Tilak Road, Purani Mandi, Old Hospital Road, City Chowk, Raghunath Bazar, Gurdwara Sunder Singh Road, Below Gumat, Vinayak Bazar, Jewel Chowk etc.
During the drive, the team of Jammu Municipal Corporation removed encroachments and cleared the footpaths and pavements. The team seized about 8 trucks of material displayed by the shopkeepers in front of their shops and on footpaths causing traffic congestion and free flow of pedestrians. The team lifted 20 illegal Rehries plying without licence.
During the drive, the team also awared the shopkeepers and vendors to keep their goods within their establishments to avoid penal action against them and the vendors asked to ply their rehries/pharies only in the Rehri Zones and specified areas by JMC.
The general public and civil society welcomed the drive conducted by JMC and appeal to the JMC that such type of drives should be conducted in near future also.
The Joint Commissioner (A) further appealed to the general public/shopkeepers not to encroach upon the footpaths, pavements etc. which is a main cause of insanitary conditions in the areas.
