Srinagar, July 26: In a remarkable show of collaboration and dedication to environmental preservation, the LG-led administration, in partnership with stakeholders and the Nigeen Lake Conservation Organisation (NLCO), has come together to conserve the Gilsar-Khushalsar twin lakes.
According to a press statement issued by NLCO, a significant development in this endeavour is the ongoing groundwork led by the Urban Environmental Engineering Department (UEED) under the LG administration.
“This crucial step involves connecting house drains to the sewage system in the Khushalsar area, which is expected to profoundly impact water quality enhancement and the preservation of the natural ecosystem in these precious twin lakes,” NLCO said.
Manzoor Wangnoo, President of NLCO, expressed his delight at the progress, emphasizing that this initiative addresses a major issue that has long been a pressing concern for conservation efforts.
“Previously, raw sewage was directly emptied into the waterbody, posing a threat to the fragile ecosystem. Now, with a holistic approach, the preservation of these pristine water bodies and their surrounding habitats is expected to be further enhanced,” he said.
