Joint House Committee to carry out spot inspection

JAMMU, Oct 13: A Joint House Committee today met under the chairmanship of Member of Legislative Council Sajjad Ahmed Kichloo.
The meeting was attended by the Members of Legislative Council, Ashok Khajuria (special invitee), G.N. Monga, Vikramaditya Singh, Charanjeet Singh and Members of Legislative Assembly, Aijaz Ahmed Khan, Ch. Qamar Hussain, Pawan Kumar Gupta and Secretary Council Abdul Majeed.
The committee was constituted to probe into the fire incident in the historical Mubarak Mandi complex in February 2009, reasons for demolishing the park and historical Chabbutra in Mubarak Mandi besides to enquire into misplaced items from Toshkhana .
After threadbare deliberations, the meeting decided to chalk out an appropriate line of action including on spot inspection of the site and then framing recommendations based on the questionnaire answered by all the stake- holders including representatives of Mubarak Mandi Heritage Society, Archaeological Survey of India, INTACH, civil society members along with officials from the Departments of Culture and Police.
While speaking on the occasion, Kichloo said that the committee will work in fact finding mission mode and will restrict itself to its mandate of most pertinent issues of fire incidents, demolition of Chabutra and park and misplaced items from Toshkhana. He also said that the committee is working towards the very important issue pertaining to restoration of Mubarak Mandi Complex for preserving the legacy of this historically significant site to ensure preservation of the site along with creating an asset to develop tourism sector of the State.
