Jora, Bhalla inspect sewerage, drainage works

Minister for ULBs, Nawang Rigzin Jora and Minister for Housing Raman Bhalla inspecting on going work on drains and nallahs at Jammu on Friday.

JAMMU, Apr 26:  Minister for Urban Development and Urban Local Bodies, Nawang Rigzin Jora and Minister for Housing and Culture, Raman Bhalla today visited Apna Vihar, Shanti Nagar, Kunjwani and inspected ongoing development works on deep drainage system and construction of local Nallahs    in the area.
Mr. Jora called upon the people to protect public property in their respective areas, adding that these assets are meant for their convenience and need to be protected. He said Government was making all out efforts to provide all basic amenities to the people across the State.
The concerned engineers of constructing agency informed the Minister that work on 231 metre length of Nallah at Shanti Nagar, Kunjwani has been completed. The Minister directed the engineers of Town Drainage Department and Jammu Municipality to continue the work on construction site and complete the remaining part of the work in stipulated time frame.
Mr. Jora, along with Mr Bhalla, also visited Bandu Rakh Kunjwani and inspected the drainage system in the area. Mr. Jora instructed the concerned engineers to remove the blockade  in the Nallah  and ensure proper maintenance of drainage system so that the people of the area may not face any inconvenience.
Later, Mr. Jora also visited Rajiv Colony and reviewed the site plan of the Ambedkar Bhawan being constructed in the locality  and also inspected the ongoing construction work .  He was informed that Rs. 45 lakh has been already spent on the construction of Bhawan and the work   is going on. He directed of the concerned Chairman of Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Society to continue the work and complete it in a stipulated time frame.
Later, Mr. Jora also inspected Recreation Park on National Highway Sarore, Bari Brahmana.
Meanwhile, Mr Bhalla today dedicated one lakh gallon discharge capacity deep drill tube well to the residents of Kanthu Mohallah, Friends Colony and its adjoining areas.
The construction work of tube well, including laying of water supply pipes, has been completed at a cost of Rs 50 lakh under Water Supply Scheme Kanthu Mohallah. The scheme includes drilling, establishment of electrical, mechanical sub-stations and civil works.
Addressing a largely attended public meeting after inauguration of the deep drill tube well , Mr. Bhalla said that on the commissioning of the tube well, a populace of about 5000 souls of Friends Colony, Kanthu Mohallah and its adjoining areas would get relief from shortage of  drinking water.
Mr. Bhalla asked the Economic Reconstruction Agency (ERA) and Public Health Engineering (PHE) to immediately start the laying of water supply pipes in uncovered and water   deficit areas   so that the people do not face any inconvenience due to shortage of this vital facility.
Responding to the demand of the residents, Mr. Bhalla assured   that their genuine demands would be redressed in a phased manner. He advised the people in general to use the power and drinking water judiciously and refrain from illegal hooking, pay electric and drinking water bills in time.
Earlier, the Minister also laid foundation stone of Sulabh Complex at main stop at Gandhi Nagar, for which Government has earmarked Rs. 16 lakh.
