Jora discusses construction of projects by SDA

SRINAGAR, July 19: Minister for Urban Development and Urban Local Bodies, Nawang Rigzin Jora on Friday convened a meeting of officers of Srinagar Development Authority (SDA) and HUDCO in his office chamber and discussed various issues related to development of housing infrastructure in Srinagar city and to improve facilities provided to the people of the city.
The meeting was attended by Commissioner-Secretary, Housing & Urban Development, Jeet Lal Gupta, Vice Chairman, Srinagar Development Authority, Mohammad Shafi Rather and Regional Chief, HUDCO, Harjit Kumar, besides other senior officers of the concerned departments.
During the deliberations, the meeting was told that SDA has decided to co-opt HUDCO as Consultants for three major projects including construction of Shehjar Apartments, development of Railhead Nowgam and Sangarmal phase-II.
Mr Jora while asking the concerned officers to go ahead with the proposed construction on the new projects said that these newly proposed development projects will not only accommodate the houseless people but will also provide employment avenues to the un-employed.
Earlier, Vice Chairman SDA informed the meeting that SDA has already taken in hand the process for accomplishment of three flagship projects, construction of 300 residential flats-Shehjar Apartments at Bemina, development of an Integrated Housing and Commercial Centre (ICC) at Railhead Nowgam for which around 1500 kanals of land has already been notified by the Government and construction of a mini- convention Centre, Corporate Office complex and hostel as a part of Sangarmal Phase-II. He further said that the proposed Railhead Nowgam Complex would be a business hub of various commercial activities including housing, hotels, motels, restaurants and shopping plaza etc.
The meeting was further told that Shehjar Apartments at Bemina will be the first planned vertical housing colony in Srinagar with various facilities like parking, recreational areas, banquet hall and sports avenues. It was also told in the meeting that HUDCO has already agreed to finance these projects.
