JAMMU, Nov 19: In a significant people friendly initiative, Minister for Urban Development and Urban Local Bodies, Nawang Rigzin Jora today flagged off mobile sanitation vehicles and water tankers with road sprinkling system at Manda in Jammu city this morning.
Satish Nehru, Secretary Housing & Urban Development Department was also present on the occasion.
The sanitation vehicles are fully equipped with the sanitation implements and each vehicle has a team of five Safaikaramcharis, who will be attending, the calls of citizens of Jammu city to get redressal of their urgent sanitation grievances.
The water tankers which are equipped with the roads sprinkling system have been designed to meet the requirements of roads of inner city areas to maintain the cleanliness.
The Minister also planted trees at heritage site adjoining Hotel Hari Niwas to develop green belt at the site.
The work of view point overseeing Tawi River being developed at the cost of Rs. 3.80 lakh, was also reviewed and necessary instructions were given on spot to beautify the place which is gateway to the Jammu city.
The Commissioner Jammu Municipal Corporation, Kiran Wattal apprised the Minister that the JMC from its own resources have purchased two water tankers at the cost of Rs. 9.20 lakh and further upgraded them with road sprinkling system. In respect of green belt, expenditure of Rs. 2.50 lakh stand incurred. He further informed that toll free number is being made operational shortly to address the complaints of citizens on 24 hour basis.
Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Jora emphasized for greater sanitation and cleanliness of the Jammu city and advocated for launching vigorous drive for green Jammu. He directed the officers of the Jammu Municipal Corporation to gear up men and machinery for providing better civic facilities to the people. He said old Jammu city need special attention to keep it clean, adding that smaller sanitation vehicles could be pressed into service for the purpose.
The officers present during the tour were Joint Commissioner (Adm), Kapil Sharma, Joint Commissioner (W), Secretary, JMC, Executive Engineers, Municipal Veterinary Officer, Health Officer, Chief Transport Officer, Chief Enforcement Officer and others.
