Jora for early conservation works at Mubarak Mandi Complex

SRINAGAR, July 20: Saying that conservation and restoration of Mubarak Mandi heritage palace is on the priority of the Government, the Minister for Tourism and Culture, Nawang Rigzin Jora has stressed upon the concerned authorities to complete all formalities and remove bottlenecks, if any, well in time for carrying out conservation works of the historical palace at the earliest. He said that Central Government has approved funding to State Government’s for two projects which include project of Rs. 50 crore under 13th FC and Rs. 16.92 crore under Mega Tourist Destination Scheme.

Chairing 20th meeting of Executive Committee Members of Mubarak Mandi Jammu Heritage Society at Civil Secretariat here, the Minister instructed PDD authorities for immediate shifting of LT/HT lines besides other electric infrastructure at identified places, adding that funds in this regard would be released soon.

The Minister directed Executive Director Mubarak Mandi Heritage Society to take necessary steps for prohibiting parking of commercial vehicles at the premises of heritage palace.

Divisional Commissioner, Jammu, Pardeep Gupta, Director Tourism Jammu, R.S.Mehta, Chief Engineer M&RE Jammu, Chief Engineer R&B Jammu, consultant tourism and culture M.Y.Qadri and non-official members of Mubarak Mandi Heritage Society among others attended the meeting.

The meeting discussed several issues related to conservation of Mubarak Mandi heritage complex besides reviewed action taken report of its last meeting.

The agenda points which came under discussion includes shifting of LT/HT lines, reuse plan of erstwhile Army Headquarter, operation of bank account, creation of parking lots and expression of interest for heritage hotel.

The Members also raised issues like stabilization of hill road on the back side of palace and conservation of basements of the palace.

The meeting decided that issues like creation of parking lots, stabilization of hill road on the back side of palace and conservation of basements of the palace would be taken up in Governing Body Meeting for appropriate action.
