JAMMU, Jan 24: Minister for Urban Development Nawang Rigzin Jora today asked Jammu Municipal Corporation to activate its enforcement wing to ensure complete check on illegal constructions and commercialization of residential areas in the city.
Speaking at a meeting held to review the functioning of Jammu Municipal Corporation (JMC) here today, the Minister said that the enforcement wing should send a strong message across the board about the commitment of Government to check unplanned expansion of the city.
Taking a strong exception to the laxity being shown by JMC in implementation of ban on polythene bags, Mr. Jora said that a sustained campaign should be launched to check sale and use of polythene bags. He said that J&K should be made polythene free as polythene is a serious environmental hazard.
During the meeting, it was informed that 847 units at 21 different locations in Jammu are being constructed under Basic Service units scheme and so far 1619.94 lakh have been released.
On the occasion, the Municipal Commissioner gave a brief account of functioning of various wings of Municipality. The Minister was informed that for expeditious disposal of cases/applications of the citizens seeking building permission the Municipal Corporation, has established single window clearances system.
Later, a deputation of Safaikarmchari Union also met the Minister and apprised him about their demands including, conduct of DPC, filling of the vacancies of drivers, and regularization of the daily wagers. The Minister assured them to consider their genuine demands as earlier as possible.
Commissioner Secretary Housing and Urban Development Department Jeet Lal Gupta, Municipal Commissioner Jammu Kuldeep Khajuria, Joint Municipal Commissioner and other senior officers of the Corporation were present on the occasion.
