LEH, June 13: Minister for Urban Development and Local Bodies Nawang Rigzin Jora inaugurated an exhibition on ‘Mapping Old Town: Archival Studies & Contemporary Responses’ in the premises of LAMO Centre in town here last evening.
In his inaugural address, Mr Jora appreciated the staff and the young artist of LAMO headed by Tashi Morup Project Director in the field of preservation and promotion of Ladakhi art and culture. He stressed upon the Ladakhi people specially the younger generation to remain deeply rooted with their rich culture and values without forgetting their illustrious history.
“For me intangible values like love, compassion, helpfulness, brotherhood and everlasting smile on the faces of Ladakhi people is more important than keeping ourselves attired with traditional outfits and ornaments,” Mr Jora maintained.
Earlier, welcoming the guests, Tashu Morup explained in detail about the organization since its establishment in 2010, objective of which was to document, research and disseminate the cultural practices of the old town in Leh with a view to revitalizing the cultural and diverse heritage of Ladakh.
Norboo Gyaltson (MLC) and Tsering Norboo Martse, president Ladakh Cultural Forum were also present on the occasion.
