Jora inaugurates Shikara Festival

SRINAGAR, Oct 2: Minister for Tourism and Culture, Nawang Rigzin Jora inaugurated Shikara Festival in the Dal Lake at Nehru Park Gate here today.
Minister of State for Home and Culture, Nasir Aslam Wani, Commissioner Tourism, Atul Dulloo, Director Tourism, Talat Parvaiz, State Convener, INTACH Saleem Beigh  and Foreign Tour Operators, were present on the occasion.
After inaugurating the heritage Shikara Festival, Mr Jora, Nasir, and officers of Tourism Department alongwith Foreign Tour Operators took a Shikara ride upto SKICC lawns. The National Coaching Camp of Kayaking and Canoeing was organized by Sports Authority of India at the jetty of Centaur Hotel. It was also informed that this coaching camp will last for 16 days and participants from various States of country will get training of Kayaking and Canoeing.
Mr. Jora while speaking on the occasion said State Government is committed to upgrade the tourism sector in the State and various initiatives have been taken for the promotion of this sector not only at national level but at international level.
Minister said the arrival of these 33 Foreign Tour Operators is part of the initiative which will definitely send a positive message to the people living abroad to attract them towards J&K.
He said Government has initiated several steps for tourism industry aimed at the betterment of State’s economy.
Later, Mr. Jora presided over an interaction session with 33 Foreign Tour Operators of China, Thailand, Singapore, Indonesia, Germany, South Africa and other countries of globe at SKICC.
On this occasion, Commissioner Tourism, Director Tourism and team of Foreign Tour Operators, representatives of different associations linked with tourism industry of J&K were present.
Minister appealed them to take along message of peace and love to their respective nations about J&K.
On this occasion a PowerPoint presentation was shown by the Tourism Department regarding the history, culture, heritage and tourist places of J&K.
