Jora reviews functioning of Leh, Kargil Development Authorities

SRINAGAR, Sept 28: Minister for Tourism and Culture Nawang Rigzin Jora reviewed the functioning of the Leh Development Authority (LDA) and Kargil Development Authority (KDA) in high level meetings here today.
Minister of State for Tourism Nasir Aslam Wani, Chief Executive Councilor, Ladakh Autonomous Hill Development Council, Leh, (LAHDC)  Rigzin Spallbar, Chief Executive Councilor, Ladakh Autonomous Hill Development Council, Kargil, (LAHDC) Kachoo Ahmad Ali Khan,  Commissioner Secretary, Tourism  Atal Dullo, Director Tourism, Kashmir, Talat Parvez and Executive Engineer, (LAHDC) S. A. Wazir attended the meeting.
The meeting was informed that the Leh attracts tourists because of its monasteries, trekking, unique culture, geo-climatic conditions, unique landscape and tradition of the people. It was given out in the meeting that 179491 tourists which include 36662 foreign tourists enjoyed the beauty of Leh during the year 2011. “Adventure tourism in Ladakh has gained much popularity in the recent times” the meeting was told.
It was given out in the meeting that the Tourism Development Authority, Leh, has taken up various works in the district at an estimated cost of Rs 11.02 crore under State sector during this year, while as under Center sector the works for an amount of Rs 18. 21 crore have also been taken by the Authority, out of which several schemes have been completed and others are in final stages.
The meeting was informed that local youth are being trained in tourist trade activities to provide trained manpower to the hospitality and hotel industry in the region, by introducing local cusines especially Ladakhi Tibetan food in hotels and to meet the growing demand of the skilled manpower to run the professional establishments. A Food Craft Institute has been approved for an amount of Rs 5.83 crore for which land measuring 24 kanals has been allotted.
While reviewing the functioning of Kargil Development Authority (KDA), the meeting was informed that main focus of the Authority is on development of tourism related infrastructure and different tourist facilities to attract more and more foreign as well as domestic tourists to Kargil.
It was also given out in the meeting that KDA is also focussing on exploiting the tourism potential in the areas upto maximum tourism activities like River Rafting, Gigantic Mountains and beautiful tracking routes will be encouraged with special emphasis. “Kargil will be brought on the world map of tourism shortly after necessary infrastructure is developed in the district”, the meeting was informed.
The meeting was informed that KDA has submitted a proposal for an amount of about Rs. 8 crore under Circuit Development in Kargil, to the Centre for approval.
