Jora, Sagar inaugurate Sewage Treatment Plant

SRINAGAR, Dec 5: Minister for Urban Development and Urban Local Bodies, Nawang  Rigzin Jora and Minster for Rural Development and Panchayati Raj, Ali Mohammad Sagar jointly inaugurated the Sewage Treatment Plant (STP), Brari Numbal here today.
Chairperson, Women’s Commission/MLA, Habba Kadal, Shamim Firdous was present on the occasion.
The STP constructed by Lakes and Waterways Development Authority (LAWDA) having capacity of 16.1 million litres per day (MLD) of sewage has been engineered on modern lines by incorporating Sequential Batch Reactor (SBR) Technology on which Rs. 21.60 crores have been spent. The STP is able to cater the catchment area of 273.39 hectares which include Mom Khan, Khawjayarbal, Hathi Khan, Saida Kadal, Naidyar, Abi Goripora, Jogi Lanker, Rainawari, Misken Bagh, Doulatabad, Abi Nowpora, Nehru Park, Gagribal, Buchwara, Drugjan, Dalgate areas and other adjoining vicinities.
On the occasion, the Ministers inspected various units of the STP including control room, raw sewage sump, storage tanks, buffer tanks, inlet work and other units.
The Ministers were informed that with the operation of the STP the back water channels passing through Rainawari, Jogi Lanker, Saida Kadal, Nowpora, Chowdary Bagh etc. would not receive the raw sewage and the problem of direct/point source pollution in respect of these areas has been addressed, besides houses and commercial establishments located on the Boulevard side are now connected with this modern STP for treatment.
Secretary, Housing and UEED Departments, Satish Nehru, Vice Chairman, LAWDA, Irfan Yasin, Commissioner Srinagar Municipal Corporation, Dr. G.N. Qasba and other concerned officers were present on the occasion.
Later, Mr. Jora visited Miskeen Bagh to inspect the construction of new laboratory building for the project which is coming up at a cost of Rs.1.50 crore.
