JAMMU, Sept 28: Jammu Province People’s Forum (JPPF), an amalgam of various social, commercial and other organizations, has strongly criticized the State Government for unprecedented delay in starting work on Maharaj Hari Singh Park on the Tawi bank.
While addressing a meeting of the Forum, convened here today to discuss various aspects of developmental works in the province, the JPPF president Pavitar Singh alleged that the Government was hell bent to destroy the economy of Jammu region by not starting tourism related projects.
“Maharaja Hari Singh Park is waiting for its development since long and we fail to understand what wrong has gone with the Government, which has been delaying work even after three and half years since it was dedicated to public,” he asked and highlighted the deteriorating condition of the park, which has been virtually converted into parking of Kashmir bound taxies.
Mr Singh lamented that despite repeated assurances for development of this park by the concerned department, the Government has not initiated work. “JPPF once again would like to reiterate that the Government should develop the entire land given to the said park in totality and we will not tolerate if even a small piece of land is given for any commercial activities,” he warned.
The JPPF leader also suggested the development of the park by providing light and sound system and a tuck shop. Further all the cultural programmes in Jammu should be celebrated in this park as it will give good feel to the viewers due to Tawi River and the upcoming lake project which is going to be made functional shortly, he added and hoped that development of the park would definitely promote tourism in Jammu province.
Others who were present in the meeting, included M S Katoch, Inderjeet Khajuria, Gajan Singh, Narayan Singh , M L Sharma, Avinash Bhatia, Balwinder Bhatia, Kamla Sharma, Sunita Sharma, Prof B L Bhardwaj, R L Tandon and Puran Chand Sharma.
