JAMMU, Aug 29: President of Jammu State Morcha (JSM) Prof Virender Gupta has strongly criticized the resolution adopted by the Legislative Council (LC) that the State Government must urge the Union Government to resume process of Indo-Pak talks to ensure peace and stability in the subcontinent in general and the State in particular.
“Legislative Council by passing this resolution has crossed its jurisdiction. The External affairs, Defence (defence of the borders) are the subjects those can only be discussed in the Parliament. The State Government has no authority to dictate Government of India on these matters”, he added.
Prof Gupta expressed surprise on the stand taken by the Congress party legislatures which was contradictory to the statement of Gulam Nabi Azad who is of the opinion that peace talks with Pakistan are not possible in the present situation when there is continuous cease fire violations and intensive firing with heavy weapons by the Pakistan army killing the innocent civilians and army personals. Azad asked for tough stand against Pakistan, he added.
He also expressed concern over the rejection of the resolution by the speaker of J&K Assembly moved by Bharatiya Janata Party and National Panther Party condemning the ceasefire violations by Pakistan on border.
While commenting on the rejection of private members bill of Harshdev Singh wherein he argued for the adoption of social and secular words in the preamble of the Constitution of J&K, 1957, Prof Gupta said this shows the communal character of the Kashmiri leadership.
