JAMMU, Sept 11: The Jammu State Morcha has warned that any move to disband Village Defence Committee (VDCs) would be suicidal for the security point of view in militancy infested areas like erstwhile Doda.
Talking to media persons, here today, the JSM leader Prof Varinder Gupta alleged that the demand for disbanding VDCs was being raised by separatists, leaders of National Conference and PDP who are against the peace and have vested interests to keep the situation vulnerable in J&K.
“In fact the need is to strengthen the VDCs by providing them training and equipping with latest required weapons,” he added.
The JSM leader also said that the minimum compensation fixed for the Kishtwar riot victims was far less than the losses suffered by them. “Reasonable and adequate compensation is required to restore the confidence of the people, particularly of minorities so that the migration of the concerned people do not take place,” he stressed.
Prof Gupta also demanded that the authorities, including the police officers who showed their sluggishness in controlling the rioters and allowed the situation to aggravate, should be brought to book.
Others  who were present in the press conference, included  H B Khajuria, Nathu Ram Gupta, Devender Singh Jamwal, Vishav Bhandu, Subash Sharma, Chandra Uday Sharma, V D Dogra, R C Gupta, Rajinder Gupta and Surjeet Singh Jamwal.
