JAMMU, Dec 17: The activists of Jagti Tenement Committee (JTC) and Soan Kashmir Front (SKF) held a protest at Jagti township Nagrota near here under the chairmanship of its president, Shadi Lal Pandita in support of the demands of displaced people from Valley today.
Addressing the protestors, Shadi Lal Pandita demanded political empowerment of the Kashmiri Pandits by reserving five Assembly seats and two Parliament seats for them so that the community members can elect their representative through secret ballot.
Pandita said that there is a long duration power cut in Jagti township due to which the inmates of the township are facing lot of difficulties. The JTC appealed to the Lt. Governor, Manoj Sinha to direct the authorities of Power Development Department (PDD) to provide uninterrupted power supply to the migrants of Jagti township.
The members also appealed to Government of India to fulfil the demands of the Kashmiri Pandits at the earliest.
They demanded removal of the illegal encroachments on the land of Kashmiri Pandits in the Valley and return it to them. They demanded settling the Kashmiri Pandits in the Valley as soon as possible by creating three Satellite townships for the Kashmiri Pandits near Baramulla, Srinagar and Anantnag.
They also demanded that the Kashmiri Pandits be compensated for the losses of 33 years, monthly cash relief be enhanced from 13,000 to 25’000 per family, at least 20 thousand Jobs should be given to unemployed educated Kashmiri Pandit youth and on – spot police recruitment drive should be held at Jagti township etc.
The other demands listed by them included soft bank loans be given to community youth with implementation of all welfare schemes for the Kashmiri migrants, release of remaining amount of ex-gratia, removal of encroachments from religious places, grant of minority status to KPs and settlement of all demands of package employees.
