JU Academic Council endorses several decisions

JAMMU, July 18: Application of Computers in Urdu course, introduction of MA Punjabi, Diploma in Gyani & Non-Collegiate Women’s Education Board in DDE are among the decisions taken in the Jammu University Academic Council meet, which was held today under the Chairmanship of Vice-Chancellor Prof Umesh Rai.
During the meeting, around 76 agenda items were presented by Prof Arvind Jasrotia, Registrar JU. Threadbare discussions were held on each of the agenda items along with the Action Taken Report on the resolutions of the last Academic Council. The Council unanimously endorsed the establishment of Incubation Innovation Entrepreneurship Skill Development Centre (IIESDC).
The item with regard to the Draft Research Policy for JU was endorsed by the Council. Prof K S Charak, Department of Mathematics was nominated to work on the University Syndicate for the remaining triennial period of 2021-2024. In principle, Council endorsed the introduction of Environmental Science as a core subject in UG Courses. It was resolved that the students shall become the lifetime member of the Alumni Association of the University.
The Academic Council endorsed the introduction of Ph D Programme in Physical Education in the Directorate of Sports and Physical Education, University of Jammu. The constitution and Non-Collegiate Women’s Education Board in the DDE was also endorsed.
It was resolved that the 5-year Integrated MCA programme in the Bhaderwah Campus, and B Ed, M Ed in Udhampur and Kathua Campus of JU shall be introduced from the academic session July 2022-23. Council approved the implementation of Value added Workshops on Life Skills in University and six months Skill Based Certificate Course on communication skills in the University Entrepreneurship and Skill Development Centre.
The Academic Council also endorsed the adoption of guidelines for pursuing two Academic programmes simultaneously. The syllabus of common paper, titled, “Understanding India’ as per National Education Policy-2020 to be introduced in all Universities Govt of UT J&K by the Higher Education Department, UT J&K was also endorsed by the Academic Council.
The Academic Council endorsed Guest Lecturers by the members of the civil society for sharing their first-hand experience in their field with the students. Various other important academic matters of the University related to admission, examination, research etc were also discussed in the Academic Council meeting, which was attended by Deans of various Faculties, Rectors/Directors of the Offsite campuses, Heads of the Departments, Conveners of Boards of Studies, College Principals and other officials of the University.
The land to lab programme for the documentation, development and dissemination of ingenious knowledge of farmer, army, Industry and other civil society with University and various other stakeholders was endorsed by Academic Council.
Vice-Chancellor Prof Umesh Rai, in his maiden Academic Council meeting, exhorted upon the University fraternity to use all modes of technology, which enable JU to go total paperless in all its functioning.
Prof Naresh Padha, Dean Academic Affairs, sought the cooperation of the University fraternity for taking forward the academics and research of the University.
