JAMMU, Nov 16:  The Academic Council of Jammu University, which met today under the chairmanship of Vice-Chancellor Prof R D Sharma, endorsed the Statutes governing Lateral Entry System for granting admission to the Diploma holders (3 years in Engg.) and B Sc Degree (Non-Medical) holders directly in 3rd Semester of the B E  Degree Course in the Engineering Colleges/ Departments affiliated to JU.
The Academic Council also endorsed the Statutes and  Scheme  for the B P Ed and M P Ed Courses as per the recommendations of Justice Verma Commission and NCTE. The Council also endorsed the MoU entered between Phreah Sihanouk Raja Buddhist University, Cambodia and the University of Jammu.
Decision to allow candidates to answer the questions either in Hindi or English in the B Ed  examination and the setting of the question papers containing questions both in Hindi and English was also endorsed during the meeting.
The Council also confirmed the introduction of BBA and B Com (Honours) Courses in the Bhaderwah Campus from the academic session 2015-16.
Rotation of Convenership, Board of Studies amongst the Professors was also endorsed.
Adoption of Semester system in various programmes,  offered by the Directorate of Distance Education (DDE) from the academic session, 2016-17 was also endorsed.
Proposal regarding creation of a post of Dean, Planning and Development was accepted in Principle for further deliberations.
Various other important issues of the university and off-site campuses were also discussed in the Academic Council meeting, which was attended by Prof  Poonam Dhawan, Dean Academic Affairs, Prof Archana Kesar, Dean Research Studies, Deans of various Faculties, Rectors/Directors of the Offsite campuses, Heads of the Departments, Conveners of Boards of Studies, Deans of University of Kashmir, College Principals and other officials.
Prof Keshav Sharma, Registrar JU presented the agenda items for threadbare discussions and decision on the same. Total of 54 agenda items were discussed along with the action taken report on the resolutions of the last Academic Council.
