JU attempting to close Buddhist Studies Deptt: NSF

JAMMU, July 12:  The National Secular Forum (NSF) has accused the Jammu University (JU) authorities of trying to clandestinely closing the Buddhist Studies department by imposing such conditions which cannot be fulfilled by the students of the region.
Addressing a press conference here today, NSF general secretary Narinder Singh said that JU authorities recently issued a notification wherein it had been maintained that the students seeking admission in PG Department of Buddhist Studies must have Diploma in Paali otherwise they would not be considered for admission.
“This is a conspiracy to shut down the Buddhist Studies department as none of students of Jammu possess this diploma hence they won’t be able to take admission in the department,” he said and informed that  none of the educational institution in Jammu province awards Diploma in Paali.
The NSF leader sought immediate revocation of the notification and asked  JU to make admission on the previous criteria so that more and more students could apply in this department and study this ancient subject which contributes in world peace.
Among those, who were present in the press-conference, included, Amit Sanotra, Varun Kumar and Navjot Singh.
