JU awards Medals, MBBS Degrees in 2nd Convocation of GMC

JAMMU, Jan 20: University of Jammu (JU) today awarded 6 medals and MBBS Degrees for the year 2013-14 as 2nd Convocation of GMC Jammu was held today.
Vice Chancellor, Prof RD Sharma, was the chief guest on the occasion while Prof Dr Ghanshyam Dev, Principal-Dean, GMC Jammu, presided over the Convocation.
Prof Manoj Dhar, Registrar and Prof Keshav Sharma, Controller of Examination, University of Jammu, Medical Superintendent, GMC, Dr Ravinder Ratan Pal, Medical Superintendent, SMGS, Dr Dara Singh, HoDs of all departments of GMC, faculty members, eminent citizens besides parents of students who received degrees were also present.
A total of 67 candidates who passed out MBBS and Internship in the year 2013-14 were awarded Degrees while 1st three toppers were awarded with medals.
The auditorium of GMC Jammu, where the Convocation was held, echoed with thunderous applause when Vice Chancellor presented medals to 1st three toppers. Aakanksha Mahajan who secured overall 1st position bagged 4 gold medals. She got first gold medal for overall 1st position, 2nd Dhani Ram Memorial gold medal, Dr Suddha Sharma medal for topper in Gyane & Obstetrics and Dr Anil Mahajan Medal for topper in Medicine.
Manvi Verma was awarded with silver medal for overall 2nd position while Rohini Jaggi was awarded bronze medal for securing overall 3rd position.
MBBS Degrees were awarded to Aakanksha Mahajan, Anita Sharma, Anjuman Fayaz, Bavneet Kour, Bindu Kumari, Bunny Sharma, Deepika Saini, Ghansham Singh Katoch, Haveena Kumari, Ifra Rasool, Insha Khan, Jabeena Bano, Manjula Salgotra, Manpreet Kour, Manvi Verma, Maqsood Ahmad Dar, Mir Shahid-ul-islam, Mohd Abass, Mohinder Kumar, Mona vats, Najmu Sakib, Nancy Bharti, Nazia Tabassum, Neerupam Bala, Neha Singh, Nidha Hafiz, Pallavi Sharma, Parakriti, Preeti Sharma, Rabia Kousar, Rajesh Singh, Reetika, Ritika Basnotra, Ritu, Rohini Jaggi, Roopali Mahajan, Sahil Sharma, Shahid-ul-Haq Dar, Shivani Dogra, Shivani Sharma, Shwait Sharma, Sonam Gupta D/o Ravi Gupta, Sonam Gupta, D/o Satish Kumar, Sonam Yangdol, Sonia Bhagat, Sonika Sharma, Sukanya Gupta, Surbhi Mahajan, Surishta Kumari, Swati, Tonyet Gailson, Umar Riaz, Vishal Singh Thakur, Vivek Pandita, Yashika Sheetal, Vibha, Saqib Zia, Waseem Hussain Mirza, Zahid Iqbal Mir, Zia Abdullah, Suhail Mir, Sonali Gupta, Aditya Kumar and Kundan Kumar.
After the Registrar JU, Manoj Dhar declared the Convocation open with the permission of the Vice Chancellor, Principal-Dean, GMC, Dr Ghanshyam Dev presented the College report card. He informed about the academic and other co-curricular activities held recently in the college. Highlighting the quality initiatives taken by the college, the Principal also threw light on infrastructural development and cultural activities on the campus. He also highlighted the achievements of the college in last few years.
Vice-Chancellor, JU, while congratulating the students, their parents as well as teachers in his address, said that your quest for learning should never end as learning is a lifelong process. It begins with birth and ends with death. Apart from updating their knowledge, he advised the students to keep the novel values of caring sharing, service and sacrifice in their hearts and lives. Maintaining that in our society doctors are next to God for patients, he hoped that wherever they (MBBS Pass outs) will serve in future they will never disappoint their patients.
The event was successfully organized by an 11-member committee constituted by Principal, GMC Jammu, under his supervision. Dr Bella Mahajan, HoD, Microbiology was coordinator of the committee whereas Dr Bhupesh Khajuria, HoD, Forensic Medicine as Nodal Officer, Media & Publicity Wing, Sanjeev Mahajan, Additional Controller, Examinations from JU was coordinator on behalf of university.
