JU celebrates ‘Urdu Day’

JAMMU, Nov 9: The PG Department of Urdu, University of Jammu today celebrated “Urdu Day” by organizing a function in the department.
Prof M K Dhar, Vice Chancellor JU was the chief guest on the occasion. Those who shared the presidium, include Prof Qudose Javed, former HoD Urdu Kashmir University; Prof Shohab Inayat Malik, Principal Institute of Music and Fine Arts, JU and Prof Mohd Reyaz Ahmed, HoD Urdu.
On this occasion, an Urdu Journal of Himaliyan Education Mission Rajouri, namely Dabastan-E-Himala was also released by Vice Chancellor Prof Manoj Kumar Dhar. The editor of the journal Muslim Wani was also present on the occasion.
While speaking on the occasion, Prof Manoj Dhar said that these types of activities would be organized at college level too so that the new generation could know more and more about Urdu language and literature. He also recited an Urdu poem on the occasion.
In his presidential address, Prof Qudose Javeed, former, HoD Urdu, Kashmir University informed that Urdu Day is celebrated on the birth anniversary of Dr Iqbal who contributed a lot for the development of Urdu language and literature. He too threw light on the promotion of Urdu language and literature and importance of Iqbal’s poetry.
Prof Shohab Inayat Malik, Principal Institute of Music and Fine Arts also spoke on the occasion and highlighted the importance of Urdu Day. He said that these types of literary activities enhance the knowledge of students and scholars.
Prof Mohd Reyaz Ahmed, HoD Urdu, threw light on the composite culture of Urdu language and literature and described the importance of Iqbal’s thought in present era.
The proceeding of the program was conducted by Dr Abdul Rashid Manhas while vote of thanks was presented by Dr Farhat Shamim. The program was attended by members of the civil society, college teachers, scholars, students, faculty members and others.
