JU Class-IV employees suspend token strike

JAMMU, Feb 18: The protesting Class-IV employees and casual labourers in Jammu University today suspended their fortnight-long stir after the Non-Gazetted Employees Union entered into an agreement with the JU authorities.
As per the agreement, the Vice-Chancellor would ensure that demands of the agitating employees are conceded soon while the NGEU would suspend the token strike for 15 days.
The NGEU president Krishan Chand announced to suspend the token strike after the Vice-Chancellor Prof M P S Ishar read out the agreement in front of the agitating employees this afternoon.
Prof Ishar assured that he would ensure fulfillment of all the demands before the next meeting of JU Council. The VC was accompanied by Registrar Prof Naresh Padha, OSD to VC Jaikumar Sharma and other officers.
Announcing suspension of their stir, the NGEU president Krishan Chand however warned to convert the token protest into indefinite strike if the demands are not conceded within 15 to 20 days.
According to the sources, the agreement between NGEU and JU authorities was signed last evening after a round of discussion over the demands of agitating employees. The development took place only a day after the NGEU announced its affiliation with the PDP Trade Union.
Pertinent to mention that the JU Class-IV employees and casual labourers were observing token strike for the last 15 days in support of the demands, which included regularization of casual labourers, due promotion benefits, pay parity etc.
