JU deliberates over UGC 2009 Regulations on PhD

JAMMU, Jan 21: Following the directions of the High Court directing the Public Service Commission (PSC) to conduct interview of the candidates with Ph. D after production of certificates from the respective universities and also directing the Universities to consider the claims of the petitioners for issuance of certificates with reference to having completed the Ph. D degrees in accordance with University Grants Commission within one week, Prof. R. D. Sharma, Vice-Chancellor, JU, today called an urgent meeting with all the faculty members and senior officials  of the University to work out the modalities for issuance of MSP Compliance/ Equivalence certificates to the Ph. D awardees.
After detailed deliberations, it was unanimously resolved that the University will issue fresh certificates at the request of the candidates, after verification of the completion of all the conditions stipulated in the UGC 2009 regulations on the recommendations of the Departmental Research Committees (DRC).
It was also resolved that the candidates who were registered to the M.Phil/ Ph.D programme after the notification of the revised statutes as per the UGC Regulations 2009,shall be issued UGC MSP Compliance certificate and the candidates registered before implementation of the UGC 2009 Regulations and awarded Ph. D degree after July 2009 Regulations shall be issued Equivalence certificates after ascertaining that the concerned candidate fulfills all the conditions as stipulated in the UGC 2009 Regulations.
Similarly the candidates who were awarded Ph. D degrees before July 2009 shall also be issued equivalence certificate provided they fulfill all the conditions laid down in the UGC 2009 Regulations.
