JAMMU, Mar 6: Executive body of the Non-Teaching Employees Union and Non Gazetted Employees Union, University of Jammu, today extended token demonstration and suspension of work by one more hour in protest against declaring of their strike as illegal and implementing `NO Work NO Pay’ even after working of employees before and after protest demonstration.
As scheduled, the protesting employees took out a protest march on the campus and then assembled in front of VC office where a strong demonstration was held.
During the demonstration, the employees under the one banner of JUNTEU and JUNGEU, raised slogans for fulfillment of their demands.
Speakers on the occasion, while reiterating their demands, also highlighted many other issues, which are the pre-requisition for better working conditions in the University of Jammu. They alleged that the dilly dallying attitude of the University authorities and some decisions taken in University Syndicate meeting forced the Non Teaching & Non Gazetted Employees to follow the agitational path, which is neither in the interest of employee nor in the interest of the University.
In response to the JU appeal, published in media, the speakers said that the Jammu University Non-Teaching & Non Gazetted Employees Unions had made sincere efforts over several years to cooperate with the University authorities. “Various meetings were held with the University authorities with regard to disposal of the long pending demands and every time authority assured the Unions that the sincere efforts were being made for fulfillment of the same but nothing has come out till date due to which the Unions are left with no option other than to go on token protest demonstration,” the speakers explained.
Further, they added, several major demands are still pending even after the concurrence of the Financial Advisor and due to wrong interpretations of the authorities and even some queries raised by the FA, the same has not been clarified by the authority yet.
“It is very surprising and painful that the University has declared the token protest as `Illegal’ and has imposed No Work NO Pay in spite of the fact that all the employees are working before and after the protest period,” they said.
Those who addressed the demonstration, included Pawan Singh Bhau , Vijay Kumar, Ashwani Bakshi, Sham Sharma , Vikas Langer, Banarasi Lal, . Vidhya Lal and others.
