KATHUA, June 6: Aiming at enhancing the foundational skills, techniques, and nuances of theatre arts, Kathua Campus, University of Jammu, organised three- day theatre workshop in collaboration with the Department of Students Welfare, JU under Training Outreach Programme.
The workshop, scheduled for 6th to 8th June, 2024 commenced today with an inspiring opening ceremony and an engaging Day 1 session, promising a transformative experience for all attendees.
The inaugural event was graced by Prof Parkash C Antahal, Dean Students Welfare, JU who was chief guest of the occasion; Prof Arvind Jasrotia, Rector, Kathua Campus; Dr Pritam Singh, Associate Dean Students Welfare, JU and Sumeet Sharma, Drama Instructor, Department of Students Welfare and the Resource Person for the event.
In his inaugural address, Prof Parkash C Antahal, while emphasizing the significance of theatre in fostering creativity, empathy, and cultural awareness, encouraged the participants to fully engage in the workshop to unlock their artistic potential and contribute to the rich tapestry of performing arts.
In his welcome address, Prof Arvind Jasrotia focused on the importance of skill-based practical workshops for the holistic development of individuals. Highlighting that the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 of India prioritizes experiential and activity-based learning as crucial elements for transforming the education system, he exhorted that this workshop is a significant step in that direction.
The workshop saw an enthusiastic turnout with a large number of participants from Kathua Campus and GDCs of the area. The first day of the workshop focused on hands-on practice of the basic skills and techniques essential for theatre.
Under the guidance of Sumeet Sharma, Drama Instructor, JU and a renowned theatre artist, participants explored various aspects of theatrical performance and techniques which are beneficial for the overall personality development by enhancing confidence. They were introduced to the importance of expression, body language, and voice and speech training.
The event was coordinated by the convener of the ‘Three Day Theatre Workshop’ Dr Nomita Sharma. The workshop was attended by Dr Sourabh, Amit Sharma, Dr Pankaj Khajuria, faculty members, staff and students of UIET and Kathua Campus.
