JU introduces Choice Based Credit System, Semester System at UG level

JAMMU, Feb 25:  Jammu University Academic Council met today under the chairmanship of Vice-Chancellor Prof Mohan Paul Singh Ishar and took several important decisions, including introduction of Choice Based Credit System and Semester System at Under Graduation level.
During the meeting, 25 agenda items were discussed along with the action taken report on the resolutions of the last Academic Council held on September 11, 2013.
The Academic Council approved initiation of M Tech Course in Computer Sciences & IT, M Tech Course in Micro Electronics & VLSI and B Pharmacy from the next academic session 2014-15.
Approval was also accorded to the implementation of the Choice Based Credit system for the Post Graduate Programmes of the JU and Semester System at Under Graduate Courses from the academic session 2014-15. Choice Based Credit system will bring the University at par with other eminent Universities of higher learning in the country and give much needed academic flexibility to the students to pursue courses of their choice.
It was also resolved that one month Library Internship Programme will be introduced after the completion of examination of second semester of M Lib I Sc course w.e.f. the session 2014.
JUET which was earlier held at Jammu only, shall now be conducted at four centres-Jammu, Poonch, Bhaderwah and Leh.
Approval was accorded for the adoption of  Justice Verma Commission recommendations duly approved by the  Supreme Court of India on Teacher Education.
Up gradation of M  Sc Geology to M Sc Applied Geology and M Sc (Tech) Applied Geology was also approved in the meeting.
Approval was also given for starting of PG Diploma in Global Destination Management after Post Graduation (one year) which was already sanctioned by UGC under its innovative Programme Scheme at the School of Hospitality and Tourism Management, JU from the academic session 2014-15.
The meeting was attended by Prof Neelam Saraf, Dean Academic Affairs, Prof Kulwant Kaur, Dean Research Studies, Deans of various faculties, Heads of the Departments, Conveners, Boards of Studies, College Principals and other officials.  Prof  Manoj K Dhar, Registrar, presented the agenda items. Prof  Arvind Dhillon, IISER Mohali, Prof  Nighat and Prof  Rukaya both from the University of Kashmir also attended the meeting.
