JAMMU, July 4: The Jammu University has issued `Letter of Displeasure’ to three faculty members of its Department of Geology , who had allegedly instigated students and joined them in protest dharna last year against then Head of the Department.
According to the official sources, the letters of displeasure have been issued to Prof G M Bhat, Prof Sandeep Kumar Pandita and Dr Yudhvir Singh, who have been found guilty of `irresponsible behavior’.
This is apparently for the first time that letters of displeasure have been issued to faculty members for their irresponsible behavior and instigating the students.
The incident of protest had taken place on the intervening night of December 3-4, last year when a group of students of Geology Department along with faculty members Prof G M Bhat, Prof S K Pandita and Dr Yudhvir Singh began indefinite protest dharna on the campus demanding immediate removal of then Head of the Department , Prof Avtar Singh Jasrotia for allegedly using foul language.
Even as the university administration considered the demand of students, a committee was constituted to look into the causes of protest and verify the allegations. The committee had served Show Cause Notices to Prof G M Bhat, Prof S K Pandita and Dr Yudhvir Singh in January last. The reply of the trio to the Show Cause Notice was deliberated in the meeting of the committee, constituted under the convenership of the Vice-Chancellor, Prof Manoj K Dhar.
After deliberations, the committee members were of the view that the manner of protest undertaken by the faculty members was not dignified, as such behavior was not expected from senior teachers of the university and according the letters of displeasure were issued to the trio.
