JU launches computer course for Army jawans, families

JAMMU, Feb 7: University of Jammu (JU), under the leadership of Vice-Chancellor Prof Umesh Rai, has launched a self-supporting Basic Computer Course for Army jawans and their families in collaboration with the Indian Army.
The programme is a collaborative effort between the Department of Lifelong Learning (DLL), University of Jammu, and the Indian Army, aimed at enhancing digital skills among military personnel and their families.
The course was inaugurated today at Army Station Ratnuchak, Jammu. The ceremony commenced with the lighting of the lamp by dignitaries, marking the beginning of the initiative. The event was hosted by Vishal Kumar.
Prof Suman Jamwal, Dean of Social Sciences, University of Jammu, was present at the event, along with Dr Priyanka Sharma, Director of DLL, who elaborated on the department’s various outreach initiatives. She highlighted the range of educational and skill-development programs that the department plans to offer for the benefit of Army personnel and their families.
In her address, Prof Suman Jamwal underscored the importance of such collaborative educational programs in bridging the gap between academic institutions and the community. She recognized the contributions of Brig Sumeet Sharma and Col Sandeep Thakkar in conceptualizing and materializing the initiative.
Brig Sumeet Sharma, Cdr 3 (1) Armed Brigade, acknowledged the dedication of Dr Priyanka Sharma and Col Sandeep Thakkar in bringing this initiative to fruition and emphasized the value of skill development for Army personnel and their families.
The event concluded with a group photograph and an interactive session with the participants.
