JU Law School organizes workshop on financial inclusion

JAMMU, May 14: The Law School, University of Jammu, in collaboration with National Stock Exchange of India Limited (NSE) and SEBI, organized workshop on Regional Investor Awareness Programme on financial inclusion through financial education.
The programme was conducted to educate and apprise students pursuing their graduation/post-graduation in Law about the benefits of financial markets and to make them aware about opportunities to grow their wealth.
The key note address was delivered by Bibu Dutta Samal, Deputy General Manager (SEBI), who made the students aware about the primary and secondary market and how to safe guard and protect their interest vis-à-vis financial resources as well as rights and obligation of individual investors in the stock markets. He also highlighted the role of SEBI in protecting the interest of the investors.
Another resource person, Nishant Srivastava from NSE delivered lecture on principal of sound investing and the securities market products. He stated that NSE is witnessing healthy participation in new age products like ETF from these states in particular. “ETF are low cost and well research products, for instance, an investor can invest in the top 50 stocks traded on NSE by buying just one unit of nifty ETF for just around of Rs 1000/- approximately. The units are easy to buy and sell on exchange platform and, at the same time, the risk is reduced. He urged that investors should take steps to ensure that their interests are protected. They need to execute few mandatory and voluntary documents with the member brokers and they must read all the documents and should know dos and don’ts of investing while entering the market,” they said during the interaction.
Earlier, Prof Arvind Jasrotia, Director, The Law School, apprised the students about the significance of such workshop which not only enlighten the participants of principal of sound investing but also an eye opener for the new entrants in the capital markets. The proceedings were conducted by Anjali Sharma, Faculty member (Economics) of The Law School.
