JAMMU, Sept 30: Students of The Law School, University of Jammu, organized an engaging event focused on electoral awareness and participation in view of ongoing Assembly elections in J&K.
Through dynamic role-playing and short skits, participants effectively conveyed the importance of civic participation and the transformative power of voting in a democratic society.
Dr Ranjeet Kalra, UT Level Election Icon, commended the initiative, noting the critical role youth play in guiding others-especially the elderly, differently-abled, and marginalized-through the voting process. He encouraged students to be proactive in sharing information about the Chief Electoral Office’s initiatives and resources available at polling booths.
Dr Seema Rohmetra, Director, The Law School, delivered an impassioned message about the non-negotiable nature of voting as a civic duty. Her “no-excuse day” call to action resonated deeply with the audience, motivating them to prioritize their democratic responsibilities despite any challenges they might face.
Dr Seema Sharma, senior Faculty member, highlighted the essential link between voting and political participation in a democratic set up, asserting that without participation in elections, citizens lose their voice.
The theme “Chunav Ka Parv Desh Ka Garv” resonated throughout the event, creating a festive atmosphere that celebrated democracy. Faculty members, including Dr Monica Narang, Dr Monika Bhardwaj, Dr Mrinalini Atrey, Dr Renu Jamwal and Dr Ramesh Kumar, contributed to the discussions, enriching the dialogue on electoral participation.
A standout moment was the presentation of a unique artistic piece created by Dr Rubia Bukhari from Poonch University Campus to Dr Ranjeet Kalra. This artwork, made from cocoon flakes, served as a poignant reminder of the intricate connection between the privileges and responsibilities of living in a democracy.
The event was coordinated by Dr Nitan Sharma, ensuring a well-organized experience that left a lasting impact on all attendees. Through this initiative, The Law School effectively fostered a culture of electoral engagement, empowering students to embrace their roles as informed voters and responsible citizens.
