JU, NCPUL holding seminar on ‘Life and Works of Manto’

JAMMU, Aug 22: Centre for Professional Studies in Urdu, University of Jammu in collaboration with Department of Urdu, Jammu University and National Council for Promotion of Urdu Language (NCPUL) New Delhi is organizing a two days National seminar on the ‘Life and Works of legendary short story writer Sadat Hassan Manto’ on August 26 and 27, here.
The seminar is being held on the occasion of centenary celebrations of the celebrated writer, which is being observed through out the world.
The seminar would be inaugurated on August 26, 2012 at 11am in seminar hall of the Department of Computer Sciences, University of Jammu by Minister for Higher Education, Abdul Gani Malik, while former Vice Chancellor, Kashmir University, Prof Reyaz Punjabi will be the guest of honour. Vice Chancellor, University of Jammu Prof Mohan Paul Singh Ishar will preside over the function.
According  to a handout issued here about 30 research scholars from different parts of the country would be participating in the seminar.
Prominent among others who will be presenting their papers include Prof Nazir Ahmed Malik, Dr Akeel Sheikh, Dr Khawaja Ekram, Dr Ali Javed, Abdul Manan Tarzi, Dr Shahid Pervaiz, Farat Rizwai, Dr Mohd Kazim and Prof Majeed Muzmer.
The artist of Rangmanch Jammu and Amateur Theatre Group would stage plays on Manto’s life namely ‘Toba Tek Singh’ and ‘Hatak’ during the inaugural function.
The organizer of the seminar have resolved to publish all the papers in the form of a book to help new generation get inspired by the works of Sadat Hassan Manto.
“To pay tributes to late scholar Manto, the  University of Jammu is going to organise this two day National seminar on his Life and Works, which would be of great significance to the people of Jammu and Kashmir”, said Prof Ishar in his statement.
