JAMMU, Nov 18: Health Centre, University of Jammu, today organized a medical and dental checkup camp in its premises.
Children from Surabhi Nursery School run by the Department of Home Science, University of Jammu and children of the employees of the University were examined during the camp.
The camp was inaugurated by the JU Vice-Chancellor’s wife, Lida Singh Isher, who stressed the need of maintaining proper nutritional habits and personal hygiene especially among children. She suggested the Medical Officer to organize more such camps for children with special needs, and also at orphanage and old age homes.
Dr G S Saini, HoU, Deptt of Pediatrics, SMGS Hospital, Dr Poonam Sethi, Medical Officer, and Dr Gautam Sharma, Dental Surgeon, JU, examined the patients at the Health Centre. More than 80 students of the school and wards of University employees also took advantage of this health camp.
Dr G S Saini said that good hygiene should be taught at school and at home. Whether in the classroom or at home, kids can learn about hygiene’s importance and find the right ways to stay neat, clean and healthy, he said.
Dr Gautam Sharma gave demonstration to the children about proper brushing methods and how to take care of their teeth at an early age. He advised children not to take sticky substances like chocolates, candies, and to avoid pizzas and soft drinks.
Prof Neelam Saraf, Dean Academic Affairs, Prof. Rajni Dingra, HoD Home Science along with other staff members were present on the occasion.
Free medicines and gifts as well as Colgate toothpaste and toothbrushes were distributed among the children free of cost.
