JAMMU, May 27: To commemorate the 42nd death anniversary of legendary Urdu and Kashmiri poet Rasa Javedani, the Department of Urdu, University of Jammu and Institute of Music and Fine Arts, JU, today organized a Literary function/Mehfil E Gazal in which various Urdu and Kashmiri scholars within and outside the performed.
The program was presided over by Aseer Kishtwari while Prof Rajni Dhingra, Dean Research Studies, graced the occasion as chief guest. Tej Krishan Bhat, Special Secretary to Govt Agriculture Production & Farmer Welfare Department was the guest of honour.
Prominent singers of the J&K UT Suraj Singh, Deepali Watal and Farooq Khokhar sang the Urdu and Kashmiri Ghazals of Rasa Javedani which mesmerized the audience.
Prof Shohab Inayat Malik, Principal IMFA and Prof Mohd Reyaz Ahmed HOD Urdu, University of Jammu, were also present in the presidium.
While speaking on the occasion, Prof Rajni Dingra threw light on the life and works of Rasa Javedani. He described him as a poet with a secular bent of mind who projected the realities of life in his Kashmiri and Urdu poetry.
While paying tribute to Rasa Javedani, Aseer Kishtwari recited some of his Urdu verses depicting the national integration and mutual understanding. Prof Mohd Reyaz Ahmed, HOD Urdu, described Rasa Javedani an Urdu poet who loved Urdu languages very much like Mirza Galib.
Earlier in his welcome address, Prof Shohab Inayat Malik, President Rasa Javedani Memorial Literary Society, highlighted the qualities of the head and heart of Rasa Javedani and described him as the Galib of Kashmiri Ghazal.
Vote of thanks was presented by former MLA Dr Chaman Lal. Prominent among those present on the occasion, included Prof Lalit Mangotra, Dr Abdul Rashid Manhas, Dr Farhat Shamim, Pyare Hatash, Dr Abdul Qayoom, Dr Javaid Shahabadi and others.
