Prof Patnaik in his lecture, highlighted the role of ethnography in the field of anthropology and its importance in bridging the gap between the self and the others. He discussed the limitations of ethnography in the field of public policy, how public policy making includes quantitative (statistical) data and helps in the formulation of different policies without having the inner understanding of the issues. He advocated for anthropology to be a universalistic science and ethnography needs to be used in policy making.
