JAMMU, May 29: The webinar on the theme “Plan your research effectively using Scopus & Science direct from Elsevier”, was organized by the Dhanvantri Library, University of Jammu, in collaboration with Elsevier.
This webinar was the result of an appeal and directions of the Vice-Chancellor Prof Manoj Dhar who opined that updating the teachers and research scholars in the 21st century skills from a distance via technology is the best way to boost their productivity and make judicious use of this time.
In his inaugural address, Prof Naresh Padha, Dean Research Studies, said that such webinars can take the research to all new heights. The data can help the researcher to not only develop critical thinking but also inculcate effective analytical, research, skills that are globally sought.
Vishal Gupta of Elsevier made an exhaustive power point presentation. The objective of this webinar was to empower researchers and help them understand how Elsevier tools like Science Direct and Scopus can enable them plan and organize their research effectively. This webinar also helped researchers understand the editor and reviewer’s perspective while publishing, based on which they can further plan their research more efficiently.
Topics covered in the webinar were: Understanding the publishing process, finding the right journals, understanding of research metrics including h-index, Citescore, SJR, SNIP and FWCI and assessing research quality.
Earlier, Prof SushilK Pandey, I/C Librarian, pointed out that a tool like SCOPUS becomes imperative in creating ‘Research-rich’ culture in the universities. Teachers and scholars need to be equipped to interrogate data and evidence from different sources rather than just describing the data or trends in attainment, he said and added that the priority for all teachers and researchers in this moment of crisis is to access the authentic data so that they can bring quality in their research papers and research projects. He further reiterated that the Central Library (Dhanvantri Library) is committed to create a virtual environment in this moment of Covid-19 crisis.
Farah Siddiqui, Account Manager, South Asia from Elsevier, handled the question/answer session and moderated the whole webinar. Vikram Sahi, Scientist from the Dhanvantri Library was the organizing secretary of the webinar who also presented the formal vote of thanks.
Around 1340 researchers from more than 400 institutes had registered for this event and was attended by 712 attendees including faculty members, scholars and students.
