JAMMU, Nov 10: Two days workshop on Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) was organized by MSME Development Institute (J&K), Government of India, Ministry of MSME, in collaboration with Law Department at University of Jammu.
Aim and objective of the programme was to sensitize the research scholars, young innovative technical minds, potential entrepreneurs and the faculty members about the Intellectual Property Rights.
During the two day programme, faculty from National Law School of India University, Bangalore; Banana IP Counsels, Bengaluru; K&S Partners, IP Attorney, Gurgaon and Patent Information Centre, Haryana State Council for Technology, Haryana were invited to expose the participants to various aspects and tools on Intellectual Property Rights.
The workshop was chaired and inaugurated by Prof R D Sharma, Vice Chancellor, JU, who stressed on need and importance of Intellectual Property Rights in today’s context and highlighted how the IPR has been used for commercial gain.
While delivering about aim and objective of the programme, Virinder Sharma, Director, MSME Development Institute, J&K, informed that Intellectual Property Rights refer to creation of the intellect for which a monopoly is assigned to designated owners by law.
In his presentation, Dr T Ramakrishna, Head Centre of IP Research and Advocacy, National Law School University Bangalore, deliberated on filling of Patent Application/ Specification, forms and fee.  He also expressed the participants to Pre Grant opposition and post grant opposition, Drafting of Provisional and Complete specification, rules for drafting claims, exercise on Drafting of Specification and Claims.
R Somashekar, Senior Partner, Banana IP Counsels, Bengaluru, discussed on Drafting of Provisional and Complete Specification, Rules for drafting claims, exercise on drafting of specification and claims.
Valini Panta, Senior Associate, K&S Partners – Intellectual Property Attorney, Gurgaon, deliberated on Patent Infringement and Protecting patent.   Rahul Taneja, Scientist, Patent Information Centre, Haryana State Council for Technology, Haryana, through his presentation, discussed about Awareness on Trade Mark, identification of mark and trade mark, kinds of marks, selection of trade mark prior search etc.
Earlier, the workshop started with the welcome address by Prof Arvind Jasrotia, Head & Dean Faculty of Law, JU.
