JU organizes workshop on ‘Role of Geology in Hydropower Projects’

JAMMU, Nov 19: The Department of Geology in Jammu University organized one day workshop on “Role of geology in Hydropower projects” for the scholars and students under its newly launched “Meet the Alumni” programme.
The resource person, Dr M A Qazi of Chenab Valley Power Projects Ltd, gave an elaborative presentation about the latest techniques applied in the tunneling, drilling, blasting and other aspects of Hydropower Projects.  While dealing with the very specialized topics, Dr Qazi demonstrated the stages of geotechnical investigation in construction of dams and tunnels in a very interactive and interesting way.
Prof Pankaj Srivastava,  Head of the Department,  said that the students should be equipped with the latest techniques used in the geotechnical investigation for hydropower projects to present themselves as the trained technical person for the future jobs to be generated in the new projects in Jammu and Kashmir, which has huge potential for hydro-electric projects.
