JU scholars contingent makes mark at Intl’ Dharma-Dhamma Conference

BHOPAL, Sept 23: Contingent of scholars from University of Jammu made their presence felt at the International Conference on ‘Dharma-Dhamma’ which concluded at the MP Vidhan Sabha complex, here today.
Considered to be a historic event in initiating inter and intra religious dialogue, the three day event was jointly organized by Department of Culture, Govt. of Madhya Pradesh, Centre for Study of Religion & Society, India Foundation, New Delhi, and Mahabodhi Society, Colombo, Sri Lanka.
JU scholar contingent, which was part of the 150 invited delegates from 20 countries and different parts of the nation, was led by Prof Baidya Nath Labh, Dept of Buddhist Studies, who was also member of the organizing committee.
Other JU scholars who presented papers on various aspects of confluence between Buddhism and the Sanatan Dharma , included Dr Lalit Gupta from JU’s Institute of Music & Fine Arts and Ph. D scholars from Dept of Buddhist Studies included Suresh Kumar, Phramaha Thanarat Sa-Ard-Iam, Phramaha Chainarong Tessai, ( Thai scholars of the dept.) and Dr Vivek Sharma, Academic Coordinator, Kathua Campus.
The valedictory function of the three day event was addressed by Dr David Frawley, world known scholar-scientist and strong votary of Indian Dharma, and Director, American Institute of Vedic Studies, Dr Murli Manohar Joshi, former Union Minister, Lakshmi Kant Sharma, Minster for Culture, MP Govt, Prof Baidya Nath Labh, Dr S Ram Mohan and others.
Earlier, on September 21, 2012, the first day of the event, foundation stone of Sanchi University for Buddhist-Indic Studies was laid down by Mahinda Rajpaksha, President of Sri Lanka, Jigmey Thinley, Prime Minister of Bhutan, Governor of MP, Shiv Raj Singh, Chouhan, Chief Minister of MP and other dignitaries.
