JAMMU, Mar 27: Continuing protest in support of their demands, including revocation of suspension of five students and removal of Prof Satnam Kour as Dean Students Welfare, Jammu University students staged a day-long dharna near the Vice-Chancellor’s Secretariat.
The continuation of students’ protest led to disruption of class work and some minor exams also, which were scheduled to be held today at department level.
The protesting students, including females and some scholars also, raised slogans against the JU administration, Vice-Chancellor and also in support of their demands, which include wi-fi and round the clock canteen facility in the university hostels, installation of CCTV cameras on entrance of the university and making newly constructed hostels functional.

Also seeking removal of Prof Satnam Kour as Dean Students Welfare, who had allegedly beaten up a student during protest on Thursday, which led to ransacking of DSW office and consequent suspension of five students, the protesters today served an ultimatum to further intensify the ongoing stir if their demands are not conceded by forthcoming Monday.
After boycotting their classes, a number of students assembled near the VC Secretariat and held a peaceful demonstration there. Amidst raising slogans in support of their demands, they held the JU administration responsible for the ongoing strike.
The protesters were also addressed by some student leaders, who reiterated their stand of not succumbing before alleged pressure tactics of the university authorities,
As reported earlier, the JU administration had ordered suspension of five students for alleged ransacking of DSW office on Thursday. The students, against whom action has been initiated, included Abhinandan Sharma of Law Department, Rishikesh Bhardwaj of Buddhist Studies Department, Sunny Parihar of DLL, Satvinder Singh of Law Department and as Nishant Gupta of Buddhist Studies.
