JAMMU, May 28: Up in arms against alleged backtrack of the University over early admission in Ph D cases and withdrawal of a controversial order denying admission over criminal charges, a number of JU students held a strong protest demonstration on the campus, here today.
The protesting students, affiliated to different organizations, raised slogans against the Jammu University and Vice-Chancellor for their failure to keep the promise made with them.
The agitating students also met the Vice-Chancellor Prof M P S Ishar in his officer chamber and lodged their protest over the issue. They alleged that the JU administration was playing with the career of some students and scholars by issuing controversial orders and delaying admission on instance of some politically influential touts.
The students reminded the VC that they had suspended their agitation following an assurance by the JU authorities that the pending cases of admission would be speeded up in a time bound manner.
The Vice-Chancellor explained that the order denying admission to students with criminal background was outcome of an RTI and necessary clarification over the rules governing admission would be issued soon.
Regarding delay in a few cases of admission for Ph D course, the VC said that legal opinion was being taken for a final decision as some technical lacunas were detected in the procedure adopted for admission.
During the meeting with VC, the protesting students were represented by Neeraj Kundan, Kamal Magotra, Nittin Bakshi, Arun Jamwal, Lovedeep Singh, Suresh Sharma, Parduman Singh and others.
