JAMMU, Aug 28: In connection with the commemoration of 75th anniversary of ‘Quit India Movement and observance of 70th year of India’s Independence’, Department of Students Welfare, University of Jammu, organized a visit of the students at ‘Balidan Stambh’ where they paid their obeisance to war heroes.
Under the guidance of Ministry of Human Resource Development and University Grants Commission, the occasion is being celebrated in a splendid way across the country and University of Jammu had chalked out various programmes/activities in this context.
The visit to ‘Balidan Stambh’ has a great significance as it is one of the biggest war memorials of India. It’s the memorial of the war fought against China & Pakistan from 1947 to 1948, Kargil war from 1990 to 1999. The war memorial (Amar Jyot) is on the name of brave heroes who made supreme sacrifices for the safety of the country and the country men. ‘Balidan Stambh’ means ‘Tower of Sacrifice’. It was constructed in memory of Defence, PMF and Police personnel who sacrificed their lives for the nation on the soil of Jammu & Kashmir.
Prof Satnam Kour, Dean Students Welfare, informed that the University of Jammu has resolved to commemorate all the occasions of national importance with zeal and enthusiasm as the students who are the major stake holders of nation building are well awakened about their national heritage and such programmes play a major role in kindling the spirit of togetherness, patriotism, peace and brotherhood amongst the students. . Renu Nanda successfully co-organized the visit and the event was coordinated by Sumeet Sharma. The students were led by Dr Niharika and Dr Parmil Kumar.
