JAMMU, Oct 16: Further hardening its stand, Jammu University today ordered suspension of three students, including a girl, who were allegedly leading the ABVP activists during the fierce protest and ‘unlawful’ assembly on the campus on October 13-14.
The students, who have been suspended till outcome of an enquiry into the high-voltage drama on campus by ABVP activists, include Madhu Sharma alias Deepak Gupta of Law Department, Kanav Sharma of Law School and Deepak Gupta of Law School.
Madhu Sharma, who is a boarder of the JU Girls Hostel, has also been barred from the hostel facility and asked to vacate the accommodation.
The action against these three students was taken on the basis of their prime facie involvement in creating trouble on the campus by ABVP activists on October 13-14, informed Prof Pankaj Shrivastva, Dean Students Welfare, JU.
These three students will remain suspended from the Jammu University till outcome of an enquiry into the October 13-14 trouble on the campus as a five-member committee, headed by Prof Kulwant Singh, has been constituted to look into the matter, the DSW added.
As reported earlier, despite closure of the university on October 14 following a high-voltage drama on the eve of Student Leaders Conference, the ABVP activist forced their entry on the campus and held the event as per schedule.
Meanwhile, reiterating that ‘unauthorized’ holding of rallies etc are not permissible on the Campus, the Jammu University has sought cooperation of all its stakeholders in maintaining conducive atmosphere for learning in this apex institution of higher learning.
“In order to keep this temple of learning above the agenda of students’ organizations, the established system of the university has to be maintained,” said a circular, issued this afternoon by the Dean Academic Affairs and Registrar JU.
“Apart from teaching inputs of the worthy teachers, their cooperation is also sought in inculcating a sense of belongingness for the university and counseling of the misguided youth, who feel that they are law onto themselves and that they are the ones who can arrogate the rules, the way they want to,” the notice further says adding that with innumerable student organizations emerging, this results into a total chaos and jeopardize the academic interests of the University.
Referring to the circumstances which arose on the late evening of October 13, 2015, the circular states that varsity was compelled to suspend the working on the campus on October 14, 2015, to prevent any chance of any likely confrontation with the student organization as also to prevent any unwanted / outside elements to disturb the peace of the Campus by indulging in any undesirable act.
