JAMMU, Oct 9: The Syndicate meeting of the Jammu University today endorsed the adoption of Scheme for pursuing two Academic Programmes simultaneously in the varsity, guidelines for establishment of Research and Development (R&D) Cell in JU, the framing of Research Policy and exemption of fees in Ph.D course for visually impaired and differently able candidates.
The 120th Syndicate meeting of the JU was held under the chairmanship of Prof Umesh Rai, Vice-Chancellor, University of Jammu. In his opening remarks, Prof Rai extended a warm welcome to Alok Kumar, Principal Secretary to Government, Higher Education Department; Prof JP Pandey, Vice-Chancellor, Dr APJ Abdul Kalam Technical University, Lucknow; Ravi Shankar, Special Secretary to Govt, Higher Education Department and other members of the Syndicate for their support to University of Jammu.
Prof Rai elaborated on recent initiatives of the University, particularly in creating an ecosystem of innovation and entrepreneurship. He spoke in detail about the recent unique initiative of University of Jammu i.e `Undergraduate Degree Program-Design Your Degree’. He said this program is unique, as it embraces the spirit of NEP 2020 in totality.
Prof Rahul Gupta, Registrar- JU presented 59 agenda items in the meeting. Threadbare discussions were held on the items of academic importance. The Syndicate meeting endorsed the exemption of fees in PhD courses for visually impaired and orthopedically/differently-abled candidates and approved the start of the Post Graduate Diploma Course in Intellectual Property Law in the Department of Law from the Academic Session 2023-24 and adoption of Statutes Governing Post Graduate Diploma Course in Intellectual Property Law.
It was also resolved to start the Post Graduate Diploma Course in Media and Law in the Department of Law from the Academic Session 2023-24 and the revival of Post Graduate Diploma Course in Criminology and Police Science in the Department of Law from the Academic Session 2023-24 was also endorsed. National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 envisages the promotion of quality research within the Higher Education System. Research and innovation are important aspects to enhance quality education by Higher Education Institutions and in this regard, the syndicate adopted the guidelines for the establishment of a Research and Development Cell at the University of Jammu. The Research Policy of University of Jammu has been framed in accordance with the ideals as envisioned in NEP (2020), keeping thrust on the socio-economic and socio-scientific issues confronting the society, especially the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir and therefore, the members of the Syndicate also adopted the Research Policy of the University of Jammu.
The adoption of Scheme for pursuing two Academic Programmes simultaneously in the University of Jammu from the Academic Session 2023-24 onwards was also endorsed by the Syndicate. It endorsed revival of PG Diploma Course in Criminology and Police Science in the Department of Law from the Academic Session 2023-24. Introduction of Post Graduate Diploma Course in Corporate Law in the Department of Law from the Academic Session 2023-24 was also approved by the Syndicate. It further in principle, approved the introduction of Master Degree Programme in Public Administration in the University of Jammu from Academic Session 2023-2024.
Recognizing the immense potential and demand for skilled professionals in the Hospitality Industry, the Syndicate in principle endorsed the introduction of 4-Year Bachelor Degree in Hotel Management (BHM) Programme in the Kathua Campus, from the Academic Session 2024-25. To offer the services of DNA extraction and PCR (Polymerase Chain Reaction) amplification in the Department of Zoology, University of Jammu was also endorsed by the Syndicate. The recommendations of the Principal & Dean, Government Medical College, Jammu for institutional Endowment Gold Medal in loving memory of Late Dr Kapila Raina, Associate Professor, Department of Bio-Chemistry GMC, Jammu for MBBS students who secure highest marks in the subject of Bio-Chemistry was unanimously endorsed by the Syndicate.
The Syndicate meeting was attended by Prof Chandra Bhushan Sharma, Department of Education, IGNOU, Prof Sunita Singh Sengupta, Department of Management Studies, Delhi University, Prof Sangeeta Rani, Dean, Faculty of Social Science, Prof KS Charak, Dept of Mathematics and others. The meeting was coordinated by Dr Neeraj Sharma, Special Secretary to Vice-Chancellor, and Dr Imran Farooq, Incharge Coordination section.
